Calendar Reflection

I consider my self a very organized person. I make lists, use a calendar, and schedule activities and appointments. Filling out the weekly calendar took organization to a whole new level. I have never planned a day, let alone a week, hour by hour.

Reflecting on my schedule, I noticed that I have a lot of free time. Many blank spaces that I just didn't know what to write in. I have many opportunities throughout the day to devote my time to studying- definitely more than 6 hours!

I will study and work on english assignments in the mornings because most days my classes don't start until 11am. I feel like I am most awake in the morning and it is a good time to get my writing done before I get too tired and lose my creative ideas.

I don't like to tie myself down to a strict schedule, but I see the need to plan my week to insure necessary homework and tasks get done each day.

Reflection:

Almost everything I read on Tyler's calendar reflection is exactly how I am approaching school and my studying habits. School comes first! (Something my parents have drilled into my head since high school.) I don't really like all of the online apps for planners so I stick to a basic planner. We all have our methods that work best for getting things done. As much as school is the focus, I don't want to get too consumed in it and not leave time to do fun things with friends.

When reading Clayton's calendar reflection, I did not relate to his busy schedule because I seem to have too much free time on my hands. However, it was great to see that he has given a lot of thought to how he will manage the time that he has for studying. It did make me a little anxious seeing that he isn't giving a lot of time for each class for studying, but that depends on the person. I am going to try and not fill my plate too full with clubs and actives so that I am not too overwhelmed during my first semester of college.

  1. I agree, this activity really put my schedule into perspective as well! Also, I love making lists and filling out my planner too (even though I am not very good at it). Even though I feel that my schedule is pretty busy, I think that there will be enough time to dedicate to English. I guess my only tip could be to make sure that you have time for other classes as well, don't overwork yourself. It seems like you are pretty organized already, so keep doing what you are doing and you'll be fine!

  2. I agree that it was weird to plan out life in such a detailed fashion. Like yourself, typing out my schedule made me realize how much free time I actually have. One thing that you mentioned that would definitely not work for me is getting up early and doing homework in the AM. I am the antithesis of a morning person, so planning on doing homework between like 10pm-12am sounds like a better plan for me. But go ahead and do whatever works for you lol

  3. I agree that planning out an entire week by the hour at first terrified me. I didn't want to see the lack of time in my schedule. However, I too was pleasantly surprised with the abundance of blank space! I love being organized as well, but I like a strict schedule. As much as I like to say I want it to be lenient and spontaneous, I love having everything planned which sounds a little different from your style!

  4. I was never one to plan my life daily and I agree this hour by hour schedule was really strange. It leaves little time for new exciting things which is why I tried to designate a bit of time each day or week to be open for both homework or spontaneity. I would recommend this if you like the schedule but also the unexpected.

  5. Hi Rachel! I'm from Bottai's 9:30 am class (section 7 I think). After reading over your calendar reflection, I just have a couple questions about how your schedule played out this semester.
    1) You said you felt very confident you had more than 6 hours a week to fit in all of your homework for every class. As the semester finishes up, did you end up having as much free time as you thought you would?
2)You also said you were planning on doing homework in the mornings before your first classes. Did you actually manage to do homework before 11 am?
    3) Do you still not like to be tied down to a strict schedule, and did you stick to a plan? I like being able to fluctuate the time dedicated to homework between days and find time for friends, but I generally have a plan for what I want to accomplish each day.
    Thanks! :)
